Ninth running of the Yellow Chip Road (formerly Ill Kanza) gravel grinder starting and ending in Kansas, Illinois. We’ll be running the classic routes this year, if you haven’t ridden them, make sure to fix that this year and see what started it all!
We’ve made a few changes to the routes this year to add more gravel and avoid newly paved roads, but the changes are minor. All routes will be timed, with prizes for the top three in each category of the 3 longest routes. All entries get raffle tickets! As anyone who’s ridden here before knows, these roads can be very rough and challenging so come prepared!

There is some parking available at the park, but you can also park at the lot 200 feet to the south on Buena Vista St:

There should also be plenty of street parking available. Make sure not to park at the bank since it is open.
— Course Info —-
This event will be mostly self supported. Make sure to bring spare tubes, a pump or CO2, tools, and ideally chain quick links. We will have a number you can call if you really cannot continue but for the most part riders are expected to fix problems on their own.
There will be two supply tables, supply table A and supply table B. Most courses will only visit one of them. We will collect drop bags before the event that we will run out to each table. We will also have some additional food and water available to all at the tables. Here is the mile marker that each table is at on each course:
22: Table B at mile 12.4
33: Table B at mile 22.9
46: Table B at mile 36.1
72: Table A at mile 41.8, table B at mile 62.4
104: Table A at mile 91.3
There is also a gas station in Marshall at mile 52.8 on the 104 mile course. If you are not stopping at the Gas Station you can turn left on 6th St and cut .3 miles off the course. There is also a soda machine in Grandview at mile 48.3 on the 72 mile course, confirmed working.
We will put a sign at every turn that is on a gravel road and not at a T-intersection. The course will also be marked with pavement markings (on paved roads) and flags (everywhere). The flag will always be on the *right* side of the road just *before* the intersection, ignore flags in other locations. The flag will be pink for a right turn, and blue for a left. We will also have maps and cue sheets available. If you have a GPS we strongly suggest loading the course onto it.
*The 104 mile course will be completely unmarked.*
Keep in mind this event is held on public roads! Obey the rules of the road and watch out for traffic.
— Timing/Ranking Info —
The timer will start at the start time. There will be a neutral start (except for the 104 mile) until the first gravel road, 1.3 miles into the ride. The finish line will be 1.4 miles before the end of the course, near the end of the last gravel road. There will be a checkered flag sign and a person timing at the finish line. This means the timed distances are 44.4 miles for the 46 mile course, 70.7 miles for the 72 mile course, and 102.1 for the 104 mile course.
If you cross the finish line in a group, or if your number might not be visible, please stop and make sure the timer got everyone’s numbers.
— Food —
The Methodist church will once again have food available for purchase after the ride.
— Bathrooms —
Just like last year, both the bathrooms in the park and the Methodist church will be open.
— Prizes / Raffle —
There will be awards for the top 3 finishers in the Open 104, Women’s 104, Singlespeed ~100, Open 72, Women’s 72, Open 46, and Women’s 46 fields.
All participants will get 3 raffle entries – 3 sets of two matching tickets. Before the start, place one ticket from each set in the cup in front of something you want to win, and hold on to the matching tickets. After the ride, a ticket will be drawn for each prize from its cup and winning tickets will be taped to the prizes, so check and see if you won anything!
